Miranda Public Affairs Special Report: Legislative Review

On December 13, Congress concluded the works of the first ordinary session of the newly inaugurated LXVI Legislature. We have prepared the following report, summarizing the approved reforms and the main items to monitor next year.

In a historic moment, the first month of work of the new legislature coincided with the final month of the presidency of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO). Thus, the parliamentary agenda was focused on the discussion and approval of the reform package promoted by the outgoing president.

Starting on October 1, when Claudia Sheinbaum took office, new priorities were included, such as the integration of social programs for women and a reform package centered on substantive equality, among others.

Towards the end of the session, a dispute emerged between Ricardo Monreal and Adán Augusto López, the parliamentary leaders of Morena in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, respectively, over alleged irregularities in contracts during Ricardo Monreal’s leadership in the Upper House and budget cuts.
